A Mission!

Jan 20, 2006: On this auspicious day, IBM gave a ray of hope after 6 days of disappointment.
Jan 21, 2006: To my surprise, my name was in the notice board as a selected member for IBM. That moment, i felt like i have achieved something on the course of fulfilling my dreams.
Of course, getting a job and saving something for your future is a perfect plan for most of us.
Jan 27, 2006: Heard news that 5 IITians, all in their 20s have decided to take up mainstream politics by launching a new party called "Paritrana" .Paritrana means complete relief from the various causes of distress. It made me proud that people of my age took the challenge against all odds to see India as a Developed Nation.
Feb 2, 2006: "Child Relief and You" touched my heart when i saw their official website. It made me think, what am i going to give to the society that gave me so much. Nice Family, Good Culture, Education in Premier Institute of India, Job at IBM. What else can i ask for? At that particular moment i decided to help those young childs who are starving for food and education. While most of their fortunate counterparts enjoy the world, these people work relentlessly to feed themselves and their families.
Feb 4, 2006: Rang De Basanti has indeed left an impression on my life. I started thinking of doing something that help India grow. I was happy that i am helping India grow by working in an MNC. But that didnot satify my zeal to help my Motherland. Some people have to sacrifice their carriers and lifes so that other can live in a prosperous environment. I thought of sacrificing my carrier but somewhere deep inside my heart i fear about the future.
Feb 6, 2006: Came across a website "http://bharatudaymission.org/". It was exciting to see so many youngsters coming across together to change the fate of the country. It doesnot want funding from any corporate Biggies. It's strategy is simple. It wants some of its members to work full time as politicians and others to continue their professional lifes and support them mentally, morally and finacially as per their convenience and motivation levels. This particular statement changed my attitude. Now i am a member of this mission. Are you?

The Delta way

What makes a person realise his/her career dreams? Well, the obvious answer is that one has to set a goal and try to accomplish it. Getting into premier institutions like the IITs, BITS-Pilani and IIMs is not easy. A similar challenge is faced by many working professionals.
Take the big-four among the Indian IT companies. In the last two to three years, these companies would have added more than twenty thousand in terms of campus recruits to their workforce. It hardly matters which institution or university the recruit graduated from. Getting into such corporate houses seems easier than before, because of the huge intake, but how does one make it to the top?.
How can one be different from the rest? How can one be a cut above the ordinary? What is the delta that gets you an admission to your dream institutions or helps reach the top brass faster?
The answer is quite simple. It is ‘DELTA’. DELTA is the increment in the behaviour that one has to demonstrate which will clearly differentiate the person from mediocrity. Many adolescents relax after getting a job which pays them a yearly income of a good four to five lakh rupees. They get into the routine of conducting themselves with the daily schedule and remain among the majority — 85 to 90 per cent. Now coming to the DELTA, which is the recipe to zoom to the top five per cent.
D in DELTA is the ‘dedication’ with which you carry out the assignments that are entrust on you. The job given to you may be very simple or highly complex. The degree of dedication demonstrated should be impeccable.
E is the ‘energy’, of course the positive energy that one displays. Current trends indicate more young ones are getting older, not at all in proportion to their age and blame it on the early ‘burnout’, due to the nature of the job. While no job is bad, the choice of getting into the job lies entirely with the individual, so why blame?
L in DELTA is ‘learn, learn and learn’. This is a continuous process and in full agreement to Deming’s statement ‘learning is not compulsory, neither is survival’. An individual who learns a new thing every day will be unstoppable. The most important learning is not to commit the same mistake. This is one reason, most companies emphasise on the fact ‘we need people with experience’ as a part of their recruitment drive. Experience plays a very important role in moulding an individual.
T stands for ‘truthfulness’. Whatever be the given situation, one should never compromise on core values especially that of ‘integrity’. The newspapers are flooded with stories of the so called ‘greats’, who fell like a pack of cards and the reason for their fall is none other than compromising on integrity. While there could be a lot of short term gains, negotiation on truthfulness is definitely a ‘no’ in the long term. There are many examples of ‘top performers’ being shown the door as they were found guilty on the integrity count by their employers.
And finally, A is for ‘attitude’. This is missing in the present generation and sadly in a very big way. Lack of the right kind of attitude has killed the careers of many prodigies. Most employees working with a mercenary kind of attitude which is very dangerous. For a few dollars more, people are making amends to the ‘employer’s name’.
What is our contribution to the organisations that we work for? On the other hand, organisations are spending tons of dollars to improve employee satisfaction, curb attrition and in return they get more and more resignations.
Changing jobs frequently does not reflect a healthy resume as well.
DELTA is essential for making it to the top in any chosen field. Each one complements the other and five ingredients are absolutely necessary to hit the ‘right’ angle pointing upwards in career advancement. In my feeling good luck follows the person with the above qualities like a shadow.

What do you want to be remembered for?

I was enjoying "milk coffee" on a cold evening when, one column drew my attention. Seeing an editorial by Dr. Kalam, excitment creeped into my mind. "Dream" is the word that took Dr. Abdul Kalam from pauper to the first man of INDIA. His motto is to dream as dreams lead to thoughts and thoughts to actions. So junta Dream Dream and Dream..
On Christmas eve, "Times of India" wanted him to be their guest editor. He rejected it but accepted to give some suggestions. The room was in utter silence waiting for his suggestions. Tuk came a question from Kalam "What do you want to be remembered for?". Journalists were shell shocked. It’s not an answer you can give off-the-cuff. Finally they said that if he gives little time to think they will answer.
Can you imagine why did he ask such a wierd QUESTION?? He explans, "this question makes you think. Why don’t you put this question to a lot of people — politicians, social workers, scientists, artists — and ask them to give their reply in just 50 words. I don’t want an essay from these guys, just a straight answer to a pointed question. It’ll make them think, and who knows it might make them also change the course of their lives". So people ask yourself "What do you want to be remembered for?".

Busstops!!

Yeah.. Everymorning half the population of Bangalore, mostly IT employees wait for company buses. Angels with stunning ADHAs will just walk infront of you to their stops with mindblowing dresses. Most of them have wet(Slightly though!!) hair which impresses me the most. Jumkhas, Bindi and sandals are amongst the others which impresses me. Enjoying this beautiful sight, i find myself in heaven. At some point of time in your life, you need someone(Opposite sex offcourse!!) to share your feelings and to give you support. I am particularly scared to get commited coz of the aftereffects. Thats entirely a different story. Who gives damn about the future when the present is so lively.:-)
Since last Thursday, i found one girl looking at me and smiling. On the first day i thought she mistook me for someother person. Later i found that she is working for the same company as i am. She did the same on Friday. This time i returned the smile. On monday, i was standing infront to avoid her. To my surprise, I found her next to me after sometime. I thought its going too far. Remember Yuva Samrat Nagarjuna's words?? "vaddu ra sodara... love ante nurella manta ra".. so i didnot look at her even once!!!
